Media and ready-made based installation comprised of a urine test sample cup. It is lined with rhinestones rotating on motorized Turntable sitting in front of a digital projector, the digital projector, shooting the light at the cup lined with rhinestones creates a disco ball like effect. The cup is meant to symbolize the repercussions of a lifestyle in the streets. In America when someone is charged of the crime sometimes they can be given what’s called probation and one of the stipulations of this probation is regular drug testing done with urine tests. The rhinestones represent the glamorization of that reality, referencing how the aesthetics of hip-hop culture, which was born in the rough urban areas of black America, has been adopted worldwide by people who are very much removed from this reality, and are performing this kind of Sensationalized persona. And one of the greatest tools for the expression of this persona, a symptom of the “attention industrial complex”, is Instagram live and live streams in general. The video on the projector that would be shot at the rotating cup is a live feed coming from an iPhone recording the installation And playing it on Instagram live. The phone documents the installation, that video feed is ran through the projector, the projection is directed at the rotating urine cup, and is subsequently picked up by the phone that transmits it through Instagram live, essentially creating this infinite feedback loop referencing the vicious, perpetual cycle of performance and feeding the desire for attention.
