Black People From Behind
June 14-20, 2026
Basel Social Club, Basel

a new iteration of my cutout installation and new wall collage, and an alternate cut of my 2023 film commission for Richie Culver’s album, ‘Alive In The Living Room’

The imagery of Black people photographed from behind set against a backdrop of interwoven scenes combining urban settings from London and my native Washington DC; two of the most surveilled cities on the planet—alongside a blurred out video of my commute to work recorded from my chest pocket. These aspects of the presentation, taking place in a vacant office building, combine to form a representation of the navigation of Black peoples through environments that grow more technologically hostile, bound by circumstance to participate in increasingly extractive labor conditions, and surveillance practices. In a society where our every move is tracked as sellable data, our very faces become commodity, and our identities, currency. The refusal to disclose the faces of the subjects of this installation attempt to deny the further usage of Black People as capital.
